“We truly believe in the importance of our reputation for quality work.”

-Sid Holliday, Jr., Chairman

During his long career in finance, Sid Holliday, Jr. learned how construction projects were put together. He studied the world of banking and construction finance from the inside. He also dealt with hundreds of people with dreams of building a house, a store, an apartment building or office complex, and he saw what a builder could do to make those dreams a reality.

Those talents are among the assets he brought to the business, along with a desire to take a personal interest in the company’s projects.

“The projects we take on are projects that interest us personally,” he says. “We want them to succeed. We are in business to please the customer.”

“We help people realize their dreams, within budget and on time.”

-Sid Holliday, III, President

Sid Holliday, III learned his craft from the ground up, hauling supplies, hammering nails and helping build apartments, houses and office buildings. After studying civil engineering and then working for a builder and an engineer, he likes to combine what he learned from all three. He can recognize a good design from a builder’s point of view and apply value engineering and creative techniques to maintain a track record of on-time, in-budget and quality-oriented projects.

While his father contributed financial expertise and Sid III brought construction and engineering know-how to the enterprise, both share the dedication to quality, and both appreciate the importance of recruiting talented people to bring additional talents to every job.

“We’re very much of a team operation,” he says. “Just as I absorbed financial expertise from my father and he gained insight into the construction business from me, everyone within the company has something important to contribute. We have a team approach to problem-solving that involves everyone, and we firmly believe two heads are always better than one.”

“We jump through the extra hoops. Few companies take this kind of comprehensive approach to construction.”

-Robert G. Stewart, Vice President

Bob Stewart is proud of the level of trust owners place in him. He feels he’s earned their faith, through years of careful attention to every aspect of multi-family construction and rehab projects.

“Beginning with the due diligence study, creation of a budget, developing the scope of work and bid specifications,” he says, “we help the owner or prospective property owner determine how much a project will cost, what kind of revenue it will generate, and whether it will generate a suitable return on investment.”

“Then we manage the project so it happens that way. I’m proudest of the level of supervision we provide on the job. The owners place their faith in me, and I take it very seriously, by constant supervision. We’re on top of what goes on with every job, no matter the size. There’s always a supervisor from our company on site, taking special care of people and property.”

“Every project that I’ve ever worked on has presented its own challenges. I take pride in having the knowledge to work through each obstacle to produce quality work that is cost effective.”

-John Tate, Project Manager

“I began working for my Dad while still in high school when he was a general contractor in Dallas. Since then, I’ve worked on projects all over the United States”.

Those projects span the breadth of construction, from streets and parks for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, to residential, hotels, restaurants, town homes, retail stores and office buildings.

John has done utility work and highways for the Texas Department of Transportation and built all types of high-end restaurants virtually all over the country.

“When you’ve done such a broad scope of construction over such a long time, you learn to draw from those experiences in order to solve problems from one project to another. I enjoy valueengineering projects to help the owner with costs and liability issues including unique energy conservation measures that may apply to a specific site or location.

“When you’ve been building for almost half a century, you tend to know what can happen that might affect the schedule, and you know what to do in advance.”

-Don Parks, Superintendent

Don Parks has worked in the construction industry for nearly 50 years, working on virtually every phase of building and remodeling. With almost two decades focused on building restaurants around the country, he has a particular understanding of the food service industry. Beginning as a heavy equipment operator, then moving to carpentry work, he has been supervising jobs now for more than 35 years.

“The most important part of my job is scheduling,” he says. “And the most important talent you can have in scheduling is the ability to stay flexible. You never know exactly what might happen on any given job, but after doing so many jobs over the years I’ve seen just about everything, and know how to work around it. Day-to-day schedules may change because of all the factors involved in any job, but the goal is always to make the finished job in on time–because that’s what the customer needs, and I try my best to keep the customer happy.”

“My job is to make the customer as relaxed as possible, comfortable in our ability to bring the job in on time and on budget.”

-Miguel Berlingeri, Construction Estimator

Miguel Berlingeri was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in Houston, starting his construction career more than a decade ago as a carpenter.

He spent two years working as a general contractor in Europe, remodeling lease spaces in Holland. He has also worked on flooring and tile, and has owned and operated his own business – learning the importance of timing and accurate cost projections in the building industry. He now is able to apply that knowledge and diverse experience to his work with Holliday Builders.

“I want to hand over each of my projects to the construction superintendent and project manager with a minimum of problems. It’s best to identify hurdles while they’re still in the planning stages, so the crews don’t have to deal with them in the field.”
